MEAN WELL power supplies for LED channel letters, light boxes, LED modules and display screens: IP67 potted 12V and 24V units for outdoor letters, enclosed 5V supplies for displays, and dimmable models for night-time dimming.
Most sign LED modules run on 12V DC. Multiply the watts per module by the number of modules on one supply, then divide by 0.8 so the supply runs at about 80% load (about 20% margin).
Many sign codes and inspectors ask for a Class 2 power unit, which limits output energy. On this page, the LPV-20, LPV-35 and LPV-60 datasheets list them as Class 2 power units; the LPV-100 datasheet does not, so check the datasheet when Class 2 is required.
Fully encapsulated LPV supplies fit inside letter cans and raceways. ELG and HLG metal-housing drivers handle larger signs; their rating is IP65 or IP67 depending on the type, so check the product page.

Light boxes and sign cabinets often have room for an enclosed supply mounted inside the cabinet, away from direct water. The ERP series is an enclosed MEAN WELL option available by quote; confirm its environmental rating on the datasheet.
Mount enclosed supplies in the orientation shown in the datasheet and keep them out of standing water; the datasheet derating curve depends on mounting and temperature.
LED display screens and moving message signs usually run on 5V at high current. Enclosed LRS and RSP 5V supplies are common choices; MEAN WELL also has a dedicated Moving Sign series.

To dim a sign at night, use a dimmable driver and a controller or timer. The PWM series is a constant voltage driver with PWM-style output controlled by 0-10V, PWM signal or resistance. HLG and ELG AB-types offer 3-in-1 dimming; B-types are available by quote.
Read the label: LED signs use a 12V or 24V DC supply. Neon uses a high-voltage transformer, which is not interchangeable with an LED supply.
Add up the modules on that circuit, divide by 0.8, and match the IP rating (IP67 inside letters, enclosed in dry cabinets).
Follow the wiring diagram in the datasheet, keep the same polarity and confirm the voltage at the far end of the run.
A 12V DC supply sized at the total module watts ÷ 0.8, usually an IP67 potted unit such as the LPV series inside the letter or raceway. Larger signs can use ELG or HLG drivers.
It depends on the local code and the sign listing. Class 2 limits output energy and is often requested for signs. On this page, the LPV-20, LPV-35 and LPV-60 datasheets list them as Class 2 power units; check the datasheet of any other model.
IP67 potted supplies can go inside letters and exposed locations. An enclosed supply can work inside a closed, dry sign cabinet. When in doubt outdoors, choose IP67.
Divide the supply rating × 0.8 by the watts per module. Example: a 60W supply × 0.8 = 48 W, so about 60 modules at 0.8 W each. Also respect the module maker's maximum string length.
Only if you also replace the neon tubes with LED modules. A neon transformer outputs high voltage AC, while LED modules need a low-voltage DC supply.
Enclosed 5V supplies with high current, such as the LRS-200-5, LRS-350-5 or RSP-320-5 (60 A). Size them for the panel maximum brightness current plus margin.
